In the Blairgowrie Advertiser for 20th March, 1915 page 6 there is an article entitled "Alyth Soldier Killed" it refers to Alex McDonald of the 2nd Gordon Highlanders. There is also a mention of his brother James who, at that time, was a Prisoner of War.
On the 27th March 1915 edition of the Blairgowrie Advertiser on page 6, there is a the following article entitled
"Alyth Brother at Neuve Chapelle - One Killed, Another Wounded"
"Lance-Corpl Alex McDonald, Gordon Highlanders, a native of Alyth, was killed in the great battle of Neuve Chapelle. His age was 22, and he had been seven years in the regiment.
His brother, Prt. David McDonald, 2nd Black Watch, was wounded in the same battle. He is 30 years of age, and enlisted in September. His wife resides in Main Street, Renton.
Another brother, Prt James McDonald is a prisoner in Germany."
