Extra information :-   His late father was book-keeper, and amongst  positions he held was that of clerk to the Eastern District Council.  

Allan was Blairgowrie High School sports champion for 1927 and 28.  He was a member of Blairgowrie Hockey Club, and also, Blairgowrie Golf Club.

When he left school he was with the Union Bank for  seven years, prior to gaining a position with the Standard Bank of South Africa in 1936. 

While he was there he joined the Rhodesian Air Force.  His initial training was as an air gunner in Rhodesia, and he completed his training back in Britain.  In June of 1942, he was posted to the Middle East.

In the November of 1941 he married Teresa Margaret Walker in Bulawayo.
