Extra information :- William lost his life in the Battle of Arnhem. He had been reported missing, and, by the time of the report in the Blairgowrie Advertiser, 31st. August 1945, he had been presumed dead.
It seems he was wounded, very slightly, in the chest and taken to a regimental first aid post, which was then hit by a mortar bomb.
before the war he had served his apprenticeship with Wm. Low & Co., of Blairgowrie, and had been with that firm of grocers in Dundee, Motherwell, and Larkhall. In the 1980s Wm. Low was taken over by Tesco.
In the 1901 Census there ia a George H I Dove, 19, living at "Whitehouse", Mertoun, Berwickshire. Is this his father?
