In the Blairgowrie Advertiser 11th March, 1915, page 6 an article entitled "Alyth" states...."Mr David Doig, youngest son of the late Mr. D. Doig, watchmaker, who before the War was in business in Pretoria, and joined Esplin's Horse on the outbreak of hostilities, has now attained the rank of Squadron-Sergt-Major."
